I just saw Jerome Ringo at BALLE. He is speaking at this year's Bioneers conference. Watch this video of him at Powershift earlier this year.

Check this out- Chief Almir on YouTube. Daily Mirror Science Editor Mike Swain speaks to Chief Almir of the Surui people. The Surui are indigenous people who live in the Para region of Brazil. Chief Almir has dedicated himself to saving the Amazon Rainforest whilst preserving his peoples culture. Chief Almir was introduced to Bioneers at the 2008 Conference by Rebecca Moore of Google Earth. This year Chief Almir will speak at Bioneers!

Former Bioneers presenter at the Oscars! Frozen River, produced by Bioneers faculty, Heather Rae, is a small independent film that has gone mainstream. After winning the Grand Jury Prize at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, it has now been nominated for two Academy Awards including Best Actress Melissa Leo and best original screenplay Courtney Hunt. Frozen River takes place on the border crossing on the Mohawk reservation between New York State and Quebec and deals with two single mothers who are drawn into the world of border smuggling across the frozen water of the St. Lawrence River. It will be available on DVD February 10th.

The Marin Independent Journal wrote a couple of great articles about the conference. One focuses on the work of Sandra Steingraber and the other more general. Check out the links below.

I had an idea of adding the Rights of Nature to the Constitution of the United States. I thought by doing so children in school would be taught to respect and care for Nature, that corporations would be forced to clean up their act. My thought (my dream) went further into thinking that this one act would have such far reaching effects, protecting the animals, the water, the soil, the trees , the air; wouldn't this decrease illness, poverty, and starvation? Wouldn't this one act improve psychological health? Can you just imagine people living in harmony with Nature, I believe in Natures healing power and so many suffering now from addictions, psychological, and physical illness could actualy recover. Just to breath the fresh air, if only to drink of pure water, to sit down and eat chemical free food, yes this is my dream. I welcome all input on my idea. It's a huge task for one person to try and add the Rights of Nature to the Constitution. I'm not really sure how to make it happen. I'm simply one person searching for solutions to global problems.
