Practical solutions for people + planet

Happy New Year!

Before you think I've gone mad, let me explain myself: Bees need our help.

Diminishing open space, pesticides, and colony collapse disorder made 2007 a rough year for one of the most critical parts of our ecosystem, honeybees.

And thus, I've decided to host bees in my city backyard.

Come spring, I'll order a nucleus colony and get started. Until then, I'm reading everything I can get my hands on and resolving that 2008 will be the year of the honeybee, at least in my backyard.

What are you doing this year?

That's great!!!! I really enjoyed the bit about the bee keeper in New York City. I can't wait to hear how it goes.

Thanks! A group of local urban beekeepers is getting together in Albuquerque to mentor and support each other. I'm on the newbie end of the spectrum, obviously, but am quite grateful for the support of much wiser "beeks" than I.
