About Me:

I am the director of House Sparrows Academy, a small, progressive elementary school in North Central Austin,TX with a focus on sustainability and individualized education.

We serve students in grades 1-3 and currently have 4 students (with 8 our maximum capacity). Our campus doubles as both home to myself the director/teacher and my husband as well as the school. This home-like environment coupled with small class size is very beneficial for the students both emotionally and academically.

What are you working on?

This is HSA's first year in operation, so my primary goal is to get the school up and running and the children with their hands in the soil. Personally speaking, my husband and I are embarking on the road to urban farming/homesteading. Much to the confusion of our neighbors we are replacing our lawn with vegetable beds. The garden is coming along far better than I had ever imagined. We are also expanding our community volunteering. Lane delivers meals by bicycle through our local Meals On (2)Wheels program and I am helping a neighbor get a garden started at her middle school as well as putting in small kitchen gardens for elderly neighbors.
