Part of the problem with the "climategate" data was that they were forced to rely on different historic because of evolving technology. Most climate data from before the eighteenth century comes from tree ring and ice core research. After the wide...

May we hope things are 'taken in the right context', including data. Yet black and white 'contrast' alone can be sufficient, for a scientific inquiry. True color added can reveal further contrasts. Context is not scientifically indicated until obs...

"Raw" data only makes sense in context. There is no such thing as too much context. Context is everything. Data emerges within context.

James Martin, Yes, context easily works in many ways and not always favorably for broader trends. Still, it seems curious that raw data is so hard to assemble for less contextualized debating. Raw data which can better compare apples with apples....

Bo Atkinson, While I haven't investigated the subject in detail, I strongly suspect that "climategate" is a propaganda mountain made out of a trivial, context-deprived molehill. There have long been propaganda/PR enemies of the best climate scien...

Back to the Land...

This beautiful and inspiring piece entitled Back to the Land, by Maira Kalman in the New York Times, features a handful of bioneers, and simply and eloquently makes that case that it's time to slow down and return to the land, and teach our children to do the same--for our health and happiness.

Ocean Garbage Patch Twice the Size of Texas?!?!

This New York Times article, by Lindsey Howshaw, comes as no surprise to me. But, I am shocked by the idea that there's a patch of mostly plastic garbage "roughly twice the size of Texas" floating in the Pacific Ocean, and it's doubling in size each year. After spending my childhood driving across the state in all directions, it seems absurd that a.) we'd let a mass of garbage collect to such a size… Continue

Wouldn't put my self out as a cover crop specialist, (currently my cover crop is what ever grows when I'm not looking), but I would welcome any questions on my blog or directly to my email. We are just muddling through here, and always enjoy questions that make us think.

Hey Julie,
Thanks for being brave and addressing the faith/god issue. I tr to skirt around it when I work with others, but it is always there. It is very hard to reconcile faith, god, spirituality, and the day to day reality of what needs to get done. We should explore this, but I will be vigilant in trying to keep us focused on the daily "what needs to get done" aspect of living. That is where salvation lies.
