This video reminded me of my experience working with Girls Inc in Denver one summer. I was the Environmental Science teacher and I took my students on many field trips outside of the city limits. Many of the the the girls I worked with had little ...

Singing is a universal medium through which we (humans that is) communicate. I can think of so many indigenous cultures that use ceremonial song as a way to, tell stories, spin myth and legend, pass on knowledge and instruction. What saddens me th...

I met her once when I was maybe 3 or 4. She was performing in Kansas City and we went backstage to say hi. It's funny, my uncle Peter hates her (really loves her sister, Mimi, who died awhile ago). I think he is just jealous of her success -- he is a retired Broadway actor. She and my mom were never really close. There is a bit of an age difference between them.

That's so cool. My friend in Los Angeles, Jeff Keyes, who is active in Veterans for Peace, is good friends with her and she sang at his wedding last year!

Thanks! No, I don't think so. I've just lived so many different places lately, that where I was born still seems like my hometown.

Profile Information

Hometown:
Kansas City, MO. "Home" is currently New Mexico.
About Me:
What do you want to know??
What are you working on?
My garden!
Favorite Book(s):
I don't really have one
Favorite Musician:
Again don't have one. I'll listen to pretty much anything as long as it has a steady beat and kickin' rhythm. But I would have to say hip-hop (good hip-hop, none of that pop junk played on the radio), Latin music, funk, soul, blues, classic R&B, reggae and rockabilly top my list. Notice that all of these genres match my "steady beat and great kickin'" criteria

Food, Inc. is a must see!

I went to see Food, Inc. last night and this movie really put me through the emotional ringer -- anguish, disgust, anger, sadness -- but ultimately I left feeling empowered to make an even more diligent attempt to really know where my food comes from. For people who are completely in the dark, this film is an eye-opener, for those of us already aware of the unsafe and unsustainable food production practices in place this country, this fi… Continue

Is Organic Food the New Agri-Business?

When we as consumers purchase food and drink brandishing the well known and easily recognizable green and white "USDA Certified Organic" label, we assume and expect that what we are buying is not only free of harmful chemicals, but is also produced in a strictly regulated and environmentally friendly way. But with the explosion of organic goods readily available, is that really the case anymore? Not according to a recently published… Continue
