Hey, Melissa and Natasha, this is a great discussion, thanks for starting it, Natasha! I did not know of Rangimarie, and am enthused to learn about her. I'm currently very excited about Shailja Patel, a Kenyan poet who's coming to speak at Bionee...

Hi SPAMMER joeAnne! Time to get rid of you.

Hi joeAnne, thanks for commenting :^) Yes, I realize that your comment is SPAM. I am leaving it in place, because I think the way you have worded your hook deserves addressing. We live in a very complex world, that we really don't understand much...

The truth is that these insects should be have their number lowered because there are a lot of cases when people were bit by them and the pills they had to take made them attend a drug treatment because they became addicted to them.

NaTasha: Yes, I realize that genetic engineering is not exactly the same as selective breeding, but at the molecular level, what does "natural" mean? This is semantics. Mutations occur, which is a re-writing of the genetic code and results in new ...

That would be quite a seed, John S! Unfortunately, I think greed is here to stay with us. How do you think we can work with it? What "seeds" do you think might appeal to the greedy and be good for the planet at the same time? I was not aware tha...

A pet peeve of mine, within environmentalism and activism. This is part of why I am here. Bioneers promotes THINKING.

Who wants to dance?

This is from TED: Ideas Worth Spreading
"Jill Bolte Taylor got a research opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: She had a massive stroke, and watched as her brain functions -- motion, speech, self-awareness –- shut down one by one"
What she learned is important for understanding how we all perceive and process information, and therefore important for anyone who seeks to reframe how the world is commonly comprehended. She discusses how to see the world as all connected.
Which path would you choose?

You're welcome! I'm sure the new sections featuring members taking every day steps and scribbling their eco thoughts will be inspiring to others. Glad you like.

Yes, "In Defense of Food" is excellent. You should also read his book "Botany of Desire." I live in suburban Charlotte, NC and I'm fortunate that we have a strong farmers market here as well as a growing slow food movement. I'll check out the new blog.

Thanks

Happy New Year Bioneers!

I've been rather quiet here for a bit. There are a few changes to the way I am writing.

The Environmental Rights explorations are still article length, and I am not yet able to break them up well into more blog-style posts. I have decided to keep them as articles, and send them to a few select magazines. If you are a publisher and you are interested, please contact me! If you would like to see these in your favourite magazine, please write to them and let them know!

I have started a new blog. Pinch Pennies Save Planet is about how the economic crises IS the environmental crises, how this situation is an opportunity, and how we can save the planet AND our bank accounts. I will be focussing on the positive.

This blog is a long-term project, and so I am getting the content up and flowing before I make it look pretty ;^).

There is so much to do, and so much that can be done. Life is amazing.

What an insane month! The whirlwind is beginning to calm into something more rhythmic, and I hope to have this new rhythm figured out enough to get back in here regularly and participate more.

Wow, are we ever on the same wave length. Just this morning I posted a blog entry at ecopaparazzi about eco-tourism, and we have discussion groups around Earth Spirituality, Grassroots, Yin and Yang (i.e., "eco" tourism), and more. With this synergy, we've got to become friends, and not just through a profile avatar or pic. But friends in the real sense. ! I'd love for you to join ecopaparazzi and bring your perspective and images. We don't have any members yet from France, so come be the first. http://exopaparazzi.ning.com

Feeling a little washed out today: I've just mailed off a 4000+ word essay submission for an anthology on Totemism and Shamanism. I'm taking today off from writing.

Hope to have another blog post up on Sat. Five are being polished, so I think I can get one up!

I am quite blue about not being able to make it to the Narby talk in Paris tomorrow. :^( Just can't budget the money nor the time. I'll have to make due with ordering his latest book. . . and add it to the growing stacks of what I *must* read soon.

Hey, NaTasha, great photos, and I love Jill Bolte Taylor's work...just finished her book. I hope you can come next year, and there's talk of a mini-Bioneers in Spain in 09...though there's still nothing quite like the CA one.
Good to feel connected across the world, especially now when this nation's in such a polarized turmoil.

Hi NaTasha,

It's been fun 'chatting' with you on the site here and thanks for all of your thoughtful comments & discussions. I try to get on here fairly regularly as well, but it is a challenge to fit it all in. Good luck with all your projects!
