http://www.waltonoutdoors.com/sustainable-garden-spirals-to-life/ Here's one of the ways we compost. We also have two worm bins, one in an old bathtub and one of the commercially made ones with stacking trays. Also sheet composting, or "lasagna gar…

Hi Michelle. It's intimidating, like a blank page to a writer! I highly recommend Gaia's Garden for practical and theoretical approaches to homescale sustainable food production. One way to start small right now and have some relatively instant gra…

I have to say there's a place in the world for creative brainstorming towards dreamy goals, even if they seem ridiculous. If nothing else, it might get the attention of people who still haven't thought about these issues yet. And, our architects rea…

About Me:
Mother of three, entrepreneur, idealist, Walton County Planning Commissioner, student of permaculture, writer, editor, dreamer, local foodie, I guess I could have just said it all with "tree hugging generalist"
What are you working on?
Local self sufficiency in my community; getting transect-based land use planning into our Comp Plan (which currently rewards sprawl and all concomitant evils while making good design difficult to illegal); teaching permaculture at Tourist Development Council's fall environmental forum; offering to sponsor Beaming Bioneers 2009 in Walton County, FL if I can get venues and tech support donated by county and/or nonprofits. Trying to work within the system and at grassroots too. While running our mom and pop biz and putting kids through college. Dream of living in a 100% self sufficient, Amory-Lovins-style earthship in Crestone, CO, one of these days
