I went to see
Food, Inc. last night and this movie really put me through the emotional ringer -- anguish, disgust, anger, sadness -- but ultimately I left feeling empowered to make an even more diligent attempt to really know where my food comes from. For people who are completely in the dark, this film is an eye-opener, for those of us already aware of the unsafe and unsustainable food production practices in place this country, this film is a powerful reminder that we must not be complacent.
When my boyfriend and I left the theater, we vowed to 1) share this film with our friends, family and loved ones, and 2) make an even more earnest effort to educate ourselves, and in a sense "practice what we preach". We then went home and made dinner; T-bone stakes from a local rancher, sustainably butchered and packaged at a local processing facility (Jesse, my partner, purchased a entire side of beef sometime ago from), zucchini from our garden and porcini mushrooms we picked ourselves in the Santa Fe National Forest. It was a delicious meal and I felt good eating it.
